Perfil

Julio Chico
Nace en la Ciudad de México el 12 de Abril de 1947. Desde los catorce años descubre su pasión por el arte. Realizó sus estudios profesionales en la Academia de San Carlos, hoy Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas de la UNAM en la Ciudad de México y desde antes de finalizar sus estudios ingresó al Centro Nacional de Conservación de Obras Artísticas del INBA donde participó en la restauración de murales y pinturas en diferentes recintos como el Palacio de Minería. Fundador de talleres de impresión para grabado y galerías de arte, ha participado como jurado en concursos de pintura y ha sido miembro del Salón de la Plástica Mexicana. Ha presentado y participado en exposiciones de óleos, acuarelas, dibujos y grabados en diferentes museos, galerías y centros culturales de diversas ciudades de México, en diferentes estados de los Unión Americana como California, Texas, Nueva York, Puerto Rico y Arizona y en otros países como Bulgaria y Venezuela. Desde 1978 varios de sus trabajos forman parte de la colección permanente de prestigiadas galerías y museos internacionales como el Salón de la Gráfica del Museo de Sofía Bulgaria, el Museo de Arte de Querétaro y el Museo de Arte Moderno de Toluca.
A lo largo de su carrera ha obtenido reconocimientos y premios como Mención Honorífica en la Bienal de Maracaibo y el Premio Goya de la Bienal Iberoamericana del Instituto Cultural Domecq.

Perfil del Artista.
Su amplio dominio de la pintura, escultura, grabado y muralismo le han permitido a lo largo de más de 30 años de carrera, explorar una vasta colección de temas donde los colores, volúmenes, geometrías y texturas adquieren una vida y personalidad propia.
Una primera etapa con postales muy urbanas llenas de sátira a la pobreza humana, a la económica y a la espiritual lo llevó a crear las colecciones Personajes y Símbolos. Hacia 1987 se volcó hacia nuestras raíces, la búsqueda de la cultura prehispánica con imágenes representativas del paisaje natural que apreciamos en Homenaje al Valle de México. Más adelante, en 1996, surge en su obra el proceso del mestizaje, la colección Almas Fracturadas es una clara y vívida expresión del encuentro y choque de dos culturas. El nuevo milenio significó ocuparse del Universo, de todo aquello que intriga y fascina al hombre en la colección de escultopintura Cosmovisión para llegar a la actualidad con una nueva propuesta, una perspectiva más conceptual del Valle de México, con formas sintetizadas, integrando el conocimiento de las formas geométricas.
Reconocido como un artista propositivo y consistente en base a una emotividad y dramatismo únicos, donde su fuerza creativa se ha vertido en obras plásticas que sorprenden no sólo por su magistral habilidad técnica, sino por la profundidad de los temas que subliman el espíritu humano y refrescan la percepción del universo.

Julio Chico. Resume

1947
He was born in April 12th. In Mexico City.
1965-1970
His professional studies were taken at the ENAP
(Plastic Arts National School), UNAM(Autonomous
National University of Mexico). Mexico City.
1969
Became a member of the “Art Garden”, and did
the same in the National Center of Conservation of
Artistic Works .INBA(Nacional Institute of Fine Arts)
Mexico City.
1976
Took part in the kiosk’s paint restoration placed at
the colony Santa María la Ribera, Mexico City.
He was responsible for the Maternity Hall’s stucco
restoration, that is placed at the Palacio de Minería’s
Chapel. Mexico City.
Restored the Jiménez and Planes’ murals under the
Manuel Gaytán’s supervision, at the Palacio de Minería
(Mining Palace). Mexico City.
He was in charge of the relieves and sculptures’ restora-
tion, placed at the Teatro de la Ciudad’s admittance, after
the fire that took place in this enclosure. Rebuilt the
shields in high-relief that are placed in the soffit of an
architrave and forum. Mexico City.
1977
Returned to “Jardín del Arte” again by second time.
Mexico City.
Became a member of the Molino’s artist’s studio, in
Santo Domingo. Mexico City.
His work came in to the Graphic Collection at the
Casa de México’s Museum, at Sofia, Bulgaria.
1979
Was invited to lead the Molino’s artist’s Studio, and
imparted a photogravure course. Mexico City.
1985
Repainted the angel figures placed in the “Teatro de la
Ciudad’s boxes. Mexico City.
1985-1991
Was the printing studio’s founder for engraving, where
many artists such as Byron Gálvez, Edmundo Aquino,
Santos Balmori, Luis Filcer, Antonio Díaz, Shirley
Cherninsky, and others were adviced by him. Mexico City.
1988
The 930 Gallery was settled by him in order to open
an exhibition space for his work. In such forum were
also exhibited some of the Santos Balmori’s works,
like the engravings folder titled as “Eros”. Mexico City.
Took part in the infantile painting contest like a jury at
the ANDSA Gallery. Mexico City.

He was asked to do the Francisco Goitia’s play’s copy
“Tata Jesucristo” by Víctor Sandoval and Tomás Zurián,
at the command of the INBA, because of the initiative from
the Zacatecas’ Government.
1996
